The gym tries out a Regional partner WOD. Thanks for the banner Becks! 😉
Competition or Community?
This past weekend got me thinking. This is an unusual activity. Most days, the most significant thoughts I have is with regards to whether I should bother to reheat leftovers or just eat them cold. (I usually just add hot sauce and eat it cold). Being at the Regional competition was energizing! Watching the athletes complete incredible feats certainly inspires one to bring their training to the next level. Competition is infectious! It’s easy to let competing become a focus. As exciting as it is to shout yourself hoarse when watching one of your athletes perform the unexpected, I also thought about how exciting it is to hear a new athlete at Rocky Point tell me that they’ve come down a pant size.
It’s amazing to learn that someone has stopped having to take a diabetes or blood pressure prescription because of their dedication to CrossFit. I’ll never get tired of watching people get their first pull-up, run a mile under ten minutes for the first time (or run their first mile period), or finally realize the harmony of hip extension and shrug and nearly throw the kettlebell above their heads!
Competition will always be exciting. We’ll continue to offer and persuade people to try competing to realize what they are capable of. But first and foremost, our goal is to make you a better human. Yes, you will become physically fit. You will look good. Super! But more important, you’ll gain tremendous confidence. You’ll learn that the only limitations you have in life are the ones you place on yourself. And you’ll realize these improvements in a community of like-minded people committed to the same thing as you.
Thanks for trying to suck less at life. 🙂 It’s an absolute honour to be on this journey with you.
